Project 52
April
A personal project for 2015.
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou
I’m participating in this project in 2015 with a group of photographers from the National Association of Professional Child Photographers. This is my third year being a member of this association, and I’m proud to say that I am! It is my hope that by participating in this project I will grow further as a photographer, have fun and collaborate with others in my field.
April brought about some interesting photos for me, mostly because I tested out a new techqnique called freelensing. It’s not new to the world of photography, but new to me as a photographer. It involves removing your lens from the camera and shooting using your lens in a different way. It can be interesting because it alters the focal plan of your lens and alters how light hits your sensor. I had a lot of fun playing around with it. My images for April included the themes of Love, Quiet, Freedom and Freelensed.
Week 1 – Love
I chose to photograph this mobile because I made it myself. I made it when my twins were about 3-4 months old. I used to sit and quietly make paper hearts when I couldn’t sleep or was having some down time from being a twin Mum. You get catapulted into motherhood without really realising what it will be like, and I needed a project. There were endless hours of tummy time and nap time in those first few months, and so I made each of my girls one of these mobiles from the piles of scrapbooking paper I had. They love them. Towards the end, I was more than happy to see the end of the project, as it took a long time to make each heart. A definite process. My labour of love.

Love
Week Two – Quiet or Quiet Moments
No quieter moment than a child considering their next move. Waiting, watching and wondering. She’s a thinker.

Quiet
Week Three – Freedom
This bird, oblivious to me deep down in the forest. I felt it’s freedom as I heard it cry out during flight. I watched it from down below, and then thought about the enormity of what is stretched out in front of it. On my ground level, all I could see was rows and rows and rows of trees.

Freedom
Week Four – Freelensed
This is the image I loved the most from this month. Learning a new technique is always interesting, but there are many that never made the “keep” pile. I had to try two different lenses to get the result I wanted. Mostly I love the colour in this image and how you can really feel that winter is here. What do you think of this one? I’d love to know.

Freelensed
Here are the other lovely ladies who are part of this project. If you’re interested to see the other photographers that are participating, go and read their blogs. We’re all so different, but it’s really nice to see this collection of images growing as the year goes on.

Which was your favourite image?
Let me know in the comments.
I’m Jo! I'm the friend with the camera in my hand, always. I'm the person who makes her husband pull over multiple times on a car trip, because I have to take a photograph right.this.second. I’ve lost count of how many cameras I have had over the years and I’ll always want the newer one that just came out
